Marjolein Lalleman was our guest speaker today.  She is our 2010/2011 Inbound student and came to us from The Netherlands.  She is 18 years old and is attending Bishop McNally High School.  She is enrolled in mostly grade 12 programs at school because she has graduated school in The Netherlands.

Marjolein gave us an account of what she has been up to since arriving in Calgary last August of 2010.

She is currently living with Ann & Dean Houghton but has also stayed with Dick & Donna Roscoe, Dave & Marie Nicholson and she had a brief stay at the beginning of her exchange at her host counselor’s house Christine Rendell.

While here she has enjoyed numerous outings, starting off with The Calgary Tower, and Fort Calgary.  She has gone to the mountains seeing Banff and Lake Louise.  She has also gone as far as Kelowna as she spent Thanksgiving there with Dave Nicholson’s family.

During the winter she has gone to many hockey games, some of the Flames games and some of Betty & Jim’s grandson’s hockey games.  She also attended winterfest where she was able to try curling for the first time.  During winterfest her and the rest of the exchange students also went to the Calgary Tower and were lucky enough to have brunch at the Zoo and do a scavenger hunt there as well.

Marjolein most recently celebrated her 18th birthday first by going out with her friends for sushi and then going out with club members to the Toad ‘n Turtle, where she tried one of the local drinks, which we won’t name.

Thank you for your wonderful presentation today Marjolein, it’s nice to see that you have been kept busy by the members of our club and we hope you continue to enjoy yourself until the end of your exchange.
