Here's hoping you have a happy New Year, both in celebration and throughout the year.

The Rotary Club of Calgary East has been through a time of struggle but by November and December there are signs of new momentum and sense of purpose. I want to keep that momentum going. To that end please mark you calendars for these upcoming events.

First, I'm still looking for responses to the three questions about our Club. If you haven't submitted your responses please get them to me by January 1, 2018.

Our regular meetings begin again January 4 at the Coast Plaza as usual.
Our speaker will be Silvia Alvarez giving her Classification speech.
We will be inducting a new member that day as well.

January 11 will be our AGM. There we will elect the new Board for Rotary Year 2018/2019. Nominations are now being accepted.
There will be another induction that day as well.

January 15 5:30pm - 8:30pm EVERYONE is requested to attend a Strategic Planning Session with Past District Governor Martin Harvey. We DO have a plan but it hasn't been "enlivened." We will work through a process to bring it to life so that it is not something on a shelf but sets our course of direction for the next few years.

February 1 Todd Hirsch will be our speaker. Todd is the Chief Economist for ATB and is sought after for economic insights by various media outlets in Calgary and around Alberta. He is a highly sought after speaker. He offers a choice of four topic areas to speak on.  I will send those out in the new year so you can suggest which you would like to hear.  This is an event to invite friends and colleagues to.  We may need a bigger room.

February 8 there will be no meeting.  We are having our Annual night out at YukYuk's Comedy Club. Tickets are $20. Bring friends and family, colleagues and others. This is a fundraiser as much as it is a social event.

Looking forward for an exciting year in Rotary.
